If you allow me...

Installed yesterday oa 'realplay' and 'linux-sun-jdk1.5.0' through the ports system. And was very happy to run these programs without any difficulty.

However this morning :
'
$ realplay ../*rm
ELF binary type "3" not known.
/usr/X11R6/lib/RealPlayer/realplay.bin: 1: Syntax error: "(" unexpected
$ javac Hello.java
ELF binary type "0" not known.
/usr/local/linux-sun-jdk1.5.0/bin/javac: 1: Syntax error: "(" unexpected
'

Can you please help?

You must enable Linux emulation to run these software.
Put this line in the end of /etc/rc.conf file:
linux_enable="YES"
and reboot.

Thank you for solving my 'realplay' en 'java' problems!

Again : if you allow me, two more newbie questions.
1. how to login not on command line but in X? Found on www :"edit /etc/ttys as the superuser and change the word off to on in the
ttyv8 line" Did it but then fluxbox was gone and I had twm. I prefer fluxbox ...
2. each time after booting, as root I have to run 'dhclient fxp0' to have internet access. Is there any init-script I can put this command in or any other action I can take so that I don't have to run it each time by hand?

Thank you for kind attention.

1. You must specify X clients. Just copy file .xinitrc in your homedir to file .Xclients, and after graphical login fluxbox will be loaded.
2. Just put this line in /etc/rc.conf:
ifconfig_fxp0="DHCP"

By the way, translation of Frenzy documentation to English was finished recently, so you can read it here:
http://frenzy.org.ua/en/releases/1.0/doc/
Please note, this documentation mostly contain Frenzy-specific info, for detailed information about FreeBSD, which is base system for Frenzy, you may read official FreeBSD handbook.

hello,

is hyperthreading disabled in Frenzy 1.0RC2?
ubench performs 50% slower in 1.0 than in 0.3 on my Pentium D 830

Hyperthreading was not enabled even in 0.3 :)
But in 0.3 there was SMP (Symmetric MultiProcessor Kernel) support. Since some bugs were encountered on non-SMP systems, SMP was disabled in 1.0.

Thank you for providing these docs.

Whenevere I have questions I try to find info on the net. But Frenzy and FreeBSD is so new to me that it is not always easy to understand everything.

Anyway wish to thank you for kind reactions.

I repeat : Frenzy 1.0 is the best way to get in touch with FreeBSD. We should make a little bit of noise so that more people are aware of this.

Rather good news! Was able to install Frenzy 1.0 on a laptop. Marvellous! Everything seems to work!!

Am booting from a grub-bootdiskette. Therefore my question. Can I boot Frenzy installed on the HDD of the laptop from the menu of the Frenzy LiveCD?

Have a nice week-end!

Hi Sergei!

Is it possible to install additional software when running Frenzy on a USB thumb drive?
I checked out the ports tree to /tmp but I am unable to remount the partitions RW.
Additionally it would be nice to have the iwi-/ipw-firmware ports installed by default. Without it, many people with Centrino notebooks stay offline :(

A last point is the font in Opera: It can hardly be read (english, extended version). Can that be changed? I already tried qtconfig, but the font there is okay.

Regards

Discoverd a very strange detail! Under Frenzy 1.0 English extended version the '['-key is not working with tcsh. No problems with the bash-shell. And no problems with '{' neither. Any hint?
